osseous expansion
On occasions the problem does not arise from lack of bone height (as explained in the sinus elevation technique) but because the osseous crest is very slim and being narrower than the diameter of the implant, the implant cannot be inserted as it would remain suspended in air.
The technique for osseous expansion consists basically, as its names suggests, in progressively expanding the bone. The osseous structure has a certain elasticity and starting from a width of 2-3mm we can widen it up to 5mm.
This protocol is based on first using a set of drills of progressively larger diameter to achieve the osseous expansion effect.
The procedure is illustrated in this case
It consists of a patient who is going to have 4 implants inserted to subsequently support a prosthesis.

You can see a slim crest which it is necessary to widen in order to insert special 3,25mm implants. |

And with the increase in bone width we can insert the implant. |
