Has this treatment been adequately tested

Implants were introduced more than thirty years ago and their positive results have been demonstrated with absolute certainty..

Is the tooth that is attached to the implant the same as a natural tooth?

.The result is optimum with regard to aesthetics and function and the organism will not establish the difference.  The main difference is that the implant does not possess sensitivity.

Can the implant be rejected?

Some 5% of implants do not become osseointegrated and do not remain firmly embedded in the bone.  It is not a case of rejection just that the tissue surrounding the implant is fibrous instead of osseous.  In this small percentage, after a few months, a new implant can be inserted without any greater complications.

What complications may arise?

It is a treatment that does not have any particular complications; in summary, it can be said that possible complications would be the same as for the extraction of a tooth.

Does it hurt?

The implant is inserted under local anaesthetic and no pain of any type is felt.  It is normal for some discomfort to be felt once the effects of the anaesthetic have worn off after 6 hours, and it will be inflamed for 48 hours.  Regular treatment with analgesics and anti-inflammatory medication should mean there is no special discomfort.

How long does the treatment last?

The treatment has two phases.  During the first phase the implant is inserted (one session of thirty minutes).  The mucous membrane is closed up and we wait five months.  Once five months have passed the correct settling of the implant is checked and within a month the treatment is completed with the fixation of the crown or prosthesis.

Nowadays, with new surfaces and other technological advances, it is even sometimes possible to insert the implant and fix the crown at the same time.
