Implants are indicated when one or more teeth are missing.  If one tooth is missing, one implant will be enough to replace it.  If there are several teeth missing, more implants will be needed.  However, it is not always necessary to replace every tooth with an implant.

When teeth are missing in a maxilla, a global solution can be found with 3 or 4 implants.  In these situations, the implants play the role of fixing and retaining the prostheses, holding them in place and providing great stability and strength.

In all cases it is necessary to carry out a study on the state of the bone, the gums, the rest of the teeth and the temporomandibular joint.  In practice, the main limitation is if there isn’t sufficient bone in which to insert the implant.  However, we now have techniques that make even this possible.
